Ojo del Mar-Costa Rica

The new barefoot luxury is refined at Ojo del Mar in Costa Rica:
We call it "simplicity"
...Ojo del Mar ("eye of the sea"), is a small, eco friendly, as well as a secluded retreat. Nestled between the pristine beaches and the tropical rain forest. The Lodge is located in the wilds of Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula.

We are committed to sustainability. Read about Sustainability at Ojo del Mar.

As National Geographic says, the Osa is the "Last Great Peninsula". Osa is still untouched by the ravages of civilization. With over 350 species of birds, 115 species of reptiles, 750 species of trees and 10,000 species of insects. Along with the 100,000 acre fantastic Corcovado National Park.
This is a gorgeous and remote spot: we cherish the Osa.

Casa Grande at Ojo del Mar

Ojo del Mar

Waking up to the sound of howler monkeys, the squawking of macaws and the orchestral singing of birds and insects against the background rhythm of the ocean.......
It's a place to reconnect to the essential.

Ojo del Mar has capacious spaces in its main "Casa Grande" (restaurant) with hardwood floors and a thatched roof bamboo construction. The Eco Lodge is solar powered, as well as being built by hand without power tools. Ojo del Mar's building concept follows a calling that is environmentally and socially responsible.

We welcome you and all sorts of groups/events to support our mindful and sustainable commitments in deep connection with nature.

The Lodge also has great places to relax on the beach. Including our hammocks, ocean-tree platform and Yoga Lounge. During the season. (May through December) if you are lucky, you can see turtles nesting and baby turtles hatching.

During the day when not out on a tour, enjoying the beach, lazing around the natural river pool or practicing yoga, the ‘Casa Grande’ offers a variety of ways to while away the hours. Folks enjoy the library, socialize with other guests, watch the sights unfold in the open air kitchen, play a game of chess or a bit of music, read up on the rain forest, and when needed, check in with planet earth on our free WiFi service, (may be "sporadic" at times).

As an "eco-resort", we do not offer air conditioning, telephones, or televisions. We are 100% off the grid.

Please note:
We are happy to charge your camera batteries and smart-phones, but we cannot charge your laptops because we have a limited power source (solar energy only).

Meanwhile, the solitude and beauty of the beach awaits you, the jungle of the Osa is calling (literally). Ojo del Mar's gardens, with a variety of native species are beckoning,…

We, Nico and Mark, consider Ojo del Mar as a sacred place of happiness and live energy, far from everything but closer to its goal:
Living large on a small ecological footprint.

As a final note, please keep in mind that because the Osa is so remote, it is not an inexpensive spot in which to vacation.

Payments with cash and traveller checks only.

We speak English, Spanish and German.
