Back of Beyond Sri Lanka was started in 2007. Started by one man's dream to tread lightly in Sri Lanka. This man's sense of wilderness as a child was something he wanted to pass on to his children. Back of Beyond was born from this. Because of this dream of preservation, all Lodges and Bungalows are built to be environmentally sensitive. The Wilderness Resorts are located in various parts of Sri Lanka.

Back of Beyond Sri Lanka has a gentle touch in all of its properties

• Minimal disruption of land, including flora and fauna when building all Eco Lodges
• Major portion of each Wilderness Resort left untouched
• Rainwater collection and creation of mini lakes to store the water for each of the Eco Lodges. In the dry season this provides water for the property, including the wildlife.
• Preserve the natural environment by studying the land before any bungalows or Eco Lodges are built. Using spaces in the land that naturally lend themselves to structures.
• Use traditional building practices as well as modern environmental construction in all Eco Lodges.
• Work with local rural craftsmen and builders for the Wilderness Resorts.
• Use sustainable sources of energy for all Lodges. Solar Energy plays a large part.
• Use of natural light and ventilation to lower energy consumption in the Bungalows.
• A policy of employing people in the local community to work at the Eco Lodges.
• Give back to the local communities via schools and temples for each Wilderness Resorts.
• Welcome guests to volunteer in the local schools near each Back of Beyond Sri Lanka.
