Since owners Bonnie Goodell and Alan Miller started out in a tent in 1979, and have been operating Volcano Guest House since 1986.
Bonnie has concentrated on protecting the surrounding native forest from noxious weeds, landscaping the village grounds sustainably, and developing her mini-farm with Dexter milk cows, Muscovy ducks, and a pond with tilapia and catfish. The ¼ mile loop driveway is a walking tour of orchids, Vireya, and colorful Ti, amongst preserved native giant tree ferns and Ohia forest.
Alan is a builder, specializing in beautiful finish work, often using local and recycled materials. Our beautiful buildings are his ongoing work.
We host lots of retreats and field trips, for the science and cultural groups, yoga and taichi, graduate studies field trips, and family events. They come back again and again. Visit us and see why.
