We had a delightful 4th year in a row......in your
beautiful Club Akumal Caribe. We loved every minute of it, even
the morning battle for a palapa. Thank you for all your efforts
to keep up a low-key, quietly elegant and environmentally nonexploitative
resort. Our 6 children are building beautiful memories and a real
love for the Mayan people and their history (we have started flying
into Mérida and travelling around for 2 days before we
land in Akumal for a week--and we love our last night in Mérida
before our early flight back to Houston on Sunday) and already
know Dzibilchultun, Uxmal, Kabah, Labna, Sayil, Tulum, Cobá,
Muyíl, and of course, Chichen! This year we spent a few
hours in Izamal, and found it fascinating.
We always get 3 rooms or cabañas, and we
love 405 in the hotel, and this year sweet Criselia was a lovely
chambermaid. Lazaro at the Beach Bar seems always to recognize
us and anticipate our needs, but to be perfectly honest, the entire
staff is welcoming and understanding and patient with children
and goofy gringos...
Several of our friends have started going down,
and I am just so happy to be able to so highly recommend your
little slice of Paradise (although I'm probably making it more
crowded for me...!)
Good luck with the landfill and with every effort
you make to minimize the impact on the environment--I wonder if
there's some alternative to the window air conditioners (which
i have to admit we do use...)
Thank you very much for your attention to all the
details of your delightful organization. We all really appreciate
it.
Fondly, hastily, Mary F. and Paul N.
Last February, my colleague Jennifer Kleinbaum and
I brought a small group of teachers to Akumal to learn about marine
biology and local culture. Throughout our stay, we were impressed
with the hospitality we encountered.
The people at Hotel Villas Maya were friendly and
helpful, and the facilities exceded our expecatations. Specifically,
we wanted to thank you for giving us a CEA discount for our rooms.
We are still receiving positive remarks from our participants
about their experience in Akumal. Thanks again. We look forward
to returning.
I just want to thank you guys for everything. My
wife, family and myself had the best time in Akumal and the Flamingo
was just beautiful. We are already making plans for next year
and many of the people who went this time are certainly going
again.
I would like to thank also, if you could pass the
word, the two people that helped out while down there, The women
who helped keep our place clean, Nidia, was the best that I have
seen as our place was always spotless.
Also, at the Lol Ha, Alfonzo took care of our every
need every time that we ate there and especially on the night
that counted.
Thank you again and we look forward to coming down
again next year.
Sincerely, Jeremy F.
I'm writing to tell you that it was a pleasure meeting
you back in May during an evening of flamenco dancing, and to
also express our profound admiration for your establishment, Club
Akumal Caribe.
We arrived on May 9, and were fortunate enough to
stay until May 23. During that period, time seemed to stand still,
as we basked in the sun under our favorite palapa, enjoyed luxurious
breakfasts at Lol-ha, and of course welcomed the evening with
Ediberto at the palapa bar every day. Although we have been home
more than a month now, we still comment on what our friends in
Akumal might be doing at the same moment we look at a full moon
or see the sun rise.
All of your people were the kindest, most courteous,
and by far the most professional of all the serving staff we have
encountered in our various travels around the planet. I have travelled
on four continents, and Jora almost as much (she leaves on yet
another European trip tomorrow with her sister). We both wholeheartedly
concur that your workers are the best-trained and friendliest
we have met, regardless of location. Europeans could learn a thing
or two from those who work for you, no doubt. We hope that you
will continue to take good care of them, as they are monumentally
important to the charm and success of your resort.
The food at Lol-ha was better than the majority
of fine restaurants in California, bar none. Your staff and manager
are to be complimented. Likewise, the waiters are the most professional
and courteous we have encountered anywhere. They seem to genuinely
enjoy their profession, and take great pride in their work. Please
give them all our greetings and thanks for their wonderful help
during our stay.
At the bar, we highly commend all the staff, Ediberto
in particular. He goes out of his way to mix the perfect drink,
make you smile, and suggest local sights and pastimes
On the beach, Cesar is kind, courteous, and helpful
to those not fully proficient in Spanish. We loved seeing him
every day, so that we might exchange a new phrase in English and
Spanish.
Forgive me if I run on and on, but it is rare that
one finds such a jewel as Club Akumal Caribe. We intend to return
in November, and if possible would like to plan our wedding there
as well. We hope that you will never change the formula as it
is at present. It is the perfect blend of service and modernity
with the rustic, slow pace of Quintana Roo. As May was my third
visit since 1988, I found the Club refreshingly unchanged, despite
the vulgar development occurring all along the peninsula. We hope
that you can and will stay the same. We are doing everything in
our power to send you more Californian business.
Thank you for your beautiful place. We will return,
and it will live in our hearts until that time.
Best wishes,
Thom L. and Jora Z.
