| The Reef Resort was the best.
The traffic, the bustle, and the density of tourists in Georgetown
did not really agree with what we wanted in a vacation in Grand
Cayman. And having found the Reef Resort on the opposite end of
the island, we felt lucky enough.
But once we arrived at the Reef and found out how nice the rooms,
the beach, the staff, and all the amenities really were, we were
overjoyed with our decision.
We rented snorkel gear and practiced in the swimming pool before
we snorkeled the waters off the beach. Next for us was to snorkel
Stingray City. Unfortunately, the tour we chose was not available
on the day we had open.
But Elaine made some calls, and got us aboard the Captain Marvin
snorkel tour on a Sunday. We had three snorkel dives that ended
up in Stingray City. It was the most fun we had during our trip
and we highly recommend it. Thanks Elaine.
And following Yoselin’s recommendation, we also had a wonderful
dinner and evening in the Restaurant with the Barefoot Man. The
food, service, and music were all delightful. Yoselin, Carol, Barbara,
and Leona took care of all our needs in the restaurant and especially
in Castro’s Hideaway during our stay and we thank them as
well.
Phil’s daily phone messages were fun and we looked forward
to them. We had an economy rental car from Andy’s which had
no power steering, but frankly, it was fun to drive on the coastal
roads and the price was right.
Portofino’s was truly fine dining and we were hooked on the
food, the view, and the atmosphere. Jackie took care of us.
If you want to buy liquor, I recommend that you stop at the duty
free liquor store on South Sound Road just outside of Georgetown.
They had decent prices. Otherwise, it’s better to get your
cocktails from the restaurants or the bars. The Reef and Portofino’s
make a great martini, by the way. Lil Hurley’s grocery had
everything we needed in the way of snacks and things. And we thank
Clive for allowing all the photo ops with Castro.
Thanks to everyone at the Reef. We had a fantastic vacation because
of all of you.

We enjoyed this lovely quiet place in "paradise".
The Reef was a lovely, out of the way place on a beautiful island.
The rooms were immaculate and very nicely decorated. It was on the
quiet east end of the island so you will need a rental car to get
around.
The snorkeling was fantastic right in front of the hotel. Start
at the pier at Morritts Tortuga Resort and float down to the pier
at The Reef. You will see sea turtles, sting ray, barracuda, angel
fish, and other colorful friends.
Rum Point also offered good snorkeling and a relaxing beach afternoon.
Good places to eat in the East End were Portofino's (excellent),
The Lighthouse and Over the Edge. Castro's was good, but the limited
menu on Barefoot Man night was disappointing I would suggest going
to Castro's for a meal on a night when The Barefoot Man is not there.
Just do drinks when Barefoot Man is there.
Also, the pool area at the Reef was nice and not crowded. All in
all, it was a lovely vacation and we will stay at the Reef if we
ever make it back to the Caymans.

Wow!
My wife and I stayed for a wonderful week at the Reef in April/May.
We had the most wonderful time lounging on the beach and playing
with Castro in the lobby. Barbara and Leona treated us like old
friends at Castro's Hideaway. Thanks for the hospitality. See you
next year.
