and please describe
We generate all our energy through a solar power system.

- Please describe any energy saving devices in use, and energy

At night we illuminate pathways by torches and solar-powered
lanterns.
In the dining we use candles. Only electrial power we use is
for fridges, deep-freeze, communication and kitchen light.
GARDENS – ORGANIC FOOD – RECYCLING-CHEMICALS
- If you have gardens, please describe any organic or chemical
farming practices.
As we are in the middle of a national park we are not allowed
to build a garden. But we assisted people in the village outside
to start and grow a garden from which we buy as much as possible
.
This is a small garden, not an industrial one, where no chemicals
are used.
- Do you have a purchasing policy - local/organic/good practice/fair
trade or any other? YES/ NO
If yes, please describe or attach?
We still have to order and buy food supply from Lusaka but we
try to buy as much as possible locally from the near-by villages
such as rice, sweet potatoe, vegetables from the garden club.
We bake our own bread.
We as well support a food programme, trying to gain independance
from international markets for the people.
- Please describe any composting or recycling programmes, and
how, if possible, guests/visitors are encouraged to participate.
CHEMICALS AND CLEANING PRODUCTS
- Approximately, what percentage of cleaning products used are
chemical, and what percentage bio degradable; please describe
As difficult to get and we are so remote, basically we use water
and ordinary soap as well as oridnary washing power for laundry.
But we try to improve on this issue as well.
WATER
- Please describe your water supply, and any water conservation
programmes, and how, if possible, guests/visitors are encouraged
to participate.
For shower we pump up water from a well. We advice people to
be as sensitive as possible, as we are not connected to a public
water supply system.
Drinking water we purify using our own using porcelan filters.
- Please describe your water purification and waste water treatment
systems.
We purify water by help of porcelan filters. This system is
provided by Katadyn, Swiss company which is the global
number one in the field of water treatment and filter systems.
FLORA AND FAUNA CONSERVATION / PRESERVATION
- Describe any flora or fauna conservation/projects you are involved
in and how you encourage your guests to participate?
Luangwa Wilderness e. V. is a non-profit organisation founded
in Germany. This NGO signed in 2002 a MoU with the Zambian Wildlife
Authority (ZAWA) and was given the permission to manage and operate
the Luambe National Park, with the aim to protect and conserve
one of the remotest places in the Luangwa Valley.
Due to the fact that the scouts working in Luambe lack knowledge,
equipment and motivation, this training will now be performed
with all scouts from the Luambe area. The course is thought to
bring about the needs in order to implement successful law enforcement
in this NP. Equipment has also been purchased by our NGO and
the first training course started this season.
OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS
- Please describe what you feel is your single most important
eco achievement? (200 words max).
The request for a “small project support” by the
German embassy has been approved for Establishment of effective
anti poaching controls in Luambe NP and Lumimba GMA”, the
conservation manager now has to specify the detailed activities,
then requests the money in time and in November has report for
when and where the money was spent.
MONITORING / FEEDBACK / TRAINING
- Please describe any staff and customer eco training/education
programmes
All our staff comes from the local villages. Everything they

our staff a 4 weeks professional hotel management training.
- Please describe any materials you have to educate your guests
(brochures, posters, pamphlets, etc.)?
We hand out an information booklets (see attached) plus copies

So far I stored the feed-back on a file on my computer. We intend
to scan any written evaluation and keep it on disc for records.
LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY

90 %. | In line with the project management structure

Our main concept is to outsource community programmes, tourism
and park development to an NGO and increase numbers
of animals by the mere fact of our presence, the support from
local people and training of scouts.
In 2007 we had a team of Singaporean dentists staying with us
who treated people from the village on a voluntary base. We provided
the location for their work, did transfers and offered a complentary
stay at the lodge for the length of that programme. ( see press
articel attached)
Please provide as much documentary evidence as possible.
Please provide 2 references, preferably one from the local or national
government tourist authority or a registered NGO (Non-profit
Non Governmental Organization) locally, and the other from your
